How to cancel IGNOU admission and get fee refund?

Cancellation of admission and refund of fees are important considerations for students at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). This article provides an overview of IGNOU’s policies regarding the cancellation of admission and the refund of fees.

The policies differ depending on the timing of the cancellation and are subject to certain deductions. It is essential for students to familiarize themselves with these policies to understand the refund process accurately. This article aims to shed light on IGNOU’s cancellation and refund policies for a better understanding of the procedures involved.

Cancellation of IGNOU Admission and Refund Policies

IGNOU has a set of policies in place regarding the cancellation of admission and the refund of fees. These policies ensure that students are informed about the potential refund amount based on the timing of the cancellation. It is important to note that a non-refundable registration fee is charged along with the program fee during IGNOU admission, which is not eligible for refund.

  1. Before Confirmation of Admission: If a student decides to cancel their application or admission before the confirmation process, they are eligible for a full refund of the program fee paid. This means that the entire amount paid towards the program fee will be returned to the student. However, the non-refundable registration fee will not be refunded.
  2. Within 15 Days of Confirmation of Admission: In cases where a student cancels their admission within 15 days of the confirmation process, the program fee paid will be refunded after deducting a sum of Rs. 500/-. This means that a nominal deduction of Rs. 500/- will be made, and the remaining amount will be refunded to the student. The non-refundable registration fee will not be returned.
  3. Within 16-90 Days of Confirmation of Admission: For cancellations made between 16 and 90 days after the confirmation of admission, the program fee paid will be refunded after deducting a sum of Rs. 1000/-. In such cases, a slightly higher deduction of Rs. 1000/- will be made from the program fee, and the remaining amount will be refunded to the student. The non-refundable registration fee will not be reimbursed.
  4. After 90 Days of Confirmation of Admission: After 90 days have passed since the confirmation of admission, no refund will be allowed. In such instances, the student will not be eligible for any refund of the program fee. It is crucial for students to take this timeline into consideration if they are contemplating cancellation, as waiting beyond the 90-day period will result in a forfeiture of the program fee paid. The non-refundable registration fee will not be refunded at any stage.

Understanding IGNOU’s policies regarding the cancellation of admission and the refund of fees is crucial for students. The refund amount is contingent upon the timing of the cancellation, with deductions applied as specified in the policies.

Students should take note of the different refund categories based on the duration after admission confirmation. By familiarizing themselves with these policies, students can make informed decisions regarding cancellation and be aware of the potential refund amount they may be entitled to receive.
