IGNOU promote students of intermediate/ semester UG & PG programmes

IGNOU promote students – As a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) has formally declared to promote the students of Undergraduate and Post-graduate programs without any June 2020 Term-End Examination (TEE).

This announcement was proclaimed by the Academic Council of the University in its 75th meeting i.e., on 18th of November 2020 for 2019-20 academic session.

IGNOU has published a proper notification on its official web page, concerning the promotion of students on 10th December 2020.

It was specified that the exclusion from TEE (June 2020) will be adaptable to only those students who have registered/ re-registered for the academic session (2019-20). 

It was clearly mentioned that :

  • July 2019 session – UG programs of 1st year ( i.e., BA(G), BCOM (G), BSC(G), BSW, BTS, BA VTM, BBA (Retailing), UG programs of 2nd year (i.e., BA, BCOM, BSC, BSW, BTS, BBA (Retailing), PG programs of 1st year ( i.e., MCOM, MEG, MHD, MPS, MAH, MSO, MAPC, MEC, MPA, MAAN, MGPS, MARD, MSCDFSM, MSCCFT, MSW, MSWC, MAEDU, MADE, MAAE, MTTM, MAPY, MAVDS, MAWGS, MAGD, MATS, MAJMC)
  • January 2020 session UG program of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th semester BCA and PG programs of Ist and 2nd Semester MBA, MBA (B&F), MSCMACS; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th semester MCA

are eligible for the exclusion mentioned above.

Nevertheless, the scheme is inapplicable for the students of the following programs i.e., BED, BLIS, MLIS, BHM, MHA, BSC(N), BCOMAF, BCOMCAA, BCOMFCA, BBA (Services Management), MCOMMAFS, MCOMFT, and MCOMBPCG.

Under-Graduate Programmes:

Students pursuing the 1st year UG program in the session of July 2019 will be spared from the TEE examination that will occur for June 2020. Furthermore, the 2nd year students who have re-registered in July 2019 UG admissions will also be excluded from giving TEE of 2nd year that will be held for June 2020. 

The term-end marks/ grades in the 1st year courses will be appointed based on the marks/grades got in TEE of 2nd year courses and for the 2nd Year courses, they will relegate it as acquired in TEE of 1st year courses.

Pupils of CBCS-UG programs who have enlisted in July 2019 will be excluded from the 1st-year TEE(1st and 2nd semesters) of June 2020. The term-end marks/grades will be allotted based on marks/grades got in TEE of the second Year (third and fourth semesters) courses.

Moreover, pupils of the BCA program who have re-applied in January 2020 are also eligible for not appearing TEE  of their corresponding intermediate semesters in June 2020. The grades in TEE of corresponding intermediate semesters will be doled out based on grades acquired in TEE of former/following semesters.

Post- Graduate Programmes:

Similar to the students of UG programs, they will exempt the 1st year PG students from appearing in TEE. The grades/marks will be assigned likewise the UG students.

MCA and MBA students who have re-admitted in January 2020 are further eligible for not appearing in the TEE of their respective intermediate semesters. Their marks/ grades will be further given get in previous/subsequent semesters. They restrict this exemption to a maximum of five to four courses and not for MS-100.

IGNOU has additionally clarified that they might revise the guidelines occasionally contingent upon the prevailing conditions of the pandemic. Students who do not want to get promoted as per this notice can appear for TEE in February 2021.

The university will make certain provisions for these students. The other details regarding the exemption criteria, exam form submission, fee, etc will be intimated through a separate notice. Which will be issued with the approval of the competent authority.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If July 2019 enrolled student had not taken admission in 2nd Year (re-register) in July 2020 session. Is he/she eligible for promotion?

Yes, if he/she has not re-registered for 2nd year (3rd & 4th semester) in July 2020 session, he/she may re-register for same in January 2021 session and appear for Term End Examination in December 2021. TEE marks of the exempted courses of first year will appear in grade card at university website, when he/she successfully complete the TEE of all the second year courses and submit all the assignments of second year.

Is Assignment submission compulsory?

The promotion to student is provided only for Term End Theory examination marks not for assignments. Students have to submit all their assignments for the required courses.The assignment submission is compulsory.
